Our Learning Community

Our Learning Community

Choosing the right nursery is one of the most important decisions a parent makes. At Stepping Stones, we understand that families want a setting where their child feels safe, known, encouraged and genuinely cared for. As a small nursery with an open plan environment, we provide a warm, personal space where every child is recognised as an individual and supported to learn with confidence, curiosity and joy.

Our learning community brings together children, families and staff in a setting that feels connected, nurturing and purposeful. A place where children build secure relationships, develop independence and experience learning that is meaningful and fun.

A Thoughtfully Designed Open Plan Environment

All children learn together in our spacious, open plan room, which is carefully divided into age appropriate sections that meet the needs of each developmental stage:

Joeys (Under 2s)

A calm, secure area that promotes attachment, early communication, sensory exploration and physical development.

Possums (2 to 3 Years)

A vibrant and engaging space where children develop independence, language, early friendships and a growing sense of self.

Roos (3+ Years)

A stimulating preschool area focused on early literacy, number sense, problem solving and school readiness — all delivered through purposeful, playful learning.

This shared environment supports smooth transitions, encourages role modelling between age groups, and helps children feel part of a wider community while still receiving the tailored support they need.

Strong Partnerships With Parents

Parents consistently tell us that communication and trust are what matter most and these sit at the heart of our practice.

At Stepping Stones, we build genuine partnerships by:

Providing daily updates through the Famly App

Sharing photos, observations and meaningful learning moments

Offering open, honest communication with approachable staff

Inviting parents to events, celebrations and feedback opportunities

We see parents as partners, and we work together to ensure every child feels secure, understood and supported.

A Skilled and Caring Staff Team

Children thrive when the adults around them are knowledgeable, consistent and truly invested in their wellbeing.

Our team is experienced, highly trained and continually developing their skills to ensure the highest quality of care and education.

Across the nursery, our practitioners:

Build warm, secure relationships with each child

Use rich language and responsive interactions to extend thinking and communication

Plan purposeful learning based on children’s interests and the EYFS

Model kindness, curiosity and problem solving

Families can feel confident that their child is supported by dedicated professionals who know how to bring out the best in them.

Inclusive, Nurturing and Family Like

Our small size allows us to create a genuine sense of belonging. Every child is noticed, every achievement celebrated, and every need understood.

We embrace diversity and promote inclusion through:

Respectful, child centred practice

Culturally diverse books, resources and celebrations

A strong focus on emotional wellbeing

Encouraging friendships, empathy and positive social interactions

Stepping Stones is a place where children feel safe to be themselves.

Learning Beyond the Room

We enrich children’s experiences with opportunities that widen their world:

Visits from community helpers such as firefighters and librarians

Outdoor learning in the garden and local area

Seasonal celebrations, cultural events and whole nursery moments

These activities develop confidence, communication, curiosity and a sense of community.

Smooth, Supportive Transitions

Whether your child is settling into nursery, moving between sections, or preparing for school, we plan transitions with great care.

We ensure children feel secure by offering:

Gentle settling visits

Time for relationship building with new staff

Clear communication with families

A strong focus on early literacy, independence and school readiness in Roos

Children leave Stepping Stones confident, capable and ready for their next chapter.

Together, We Are Stepping Stones

Our learning community is built on relationships — the connections between children, families and staff that make our nursery feel warm, personal and genuinely welcoming.

In our open, enabling environment, children develop confidence, curiosity and a deep love of learning. At Stepping Stones, every child is given the care, attention and opportunities they need to take steady, meaningful steps into their future.
